Here I am sharing with you the top five things I love about the new Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G. Read more here.
In case you missed it, Huawei Philippines sent me a review unit of their
latest midrange smartphone offering under their popular Nova series. The
Chinese electronics giant actually released three smartphones for this year's
Nova line-up and those are the Nova 7 SE, Nova 7 and Nova 7 Pro, all 5G-ready
smartphones. But the one they just recently launched in the Philippines is the
SE model. Fortunately, Huawei sent me one in Space Silver color variant for me
to personally try and share with you my experience with it. So here it is.
So far I have already published by unboxing and initial hand-on review of the
Nova 7 SE 5G and if you have not checked it out yet, you can
head over to this link
and take a look. In this post, I will be sharing with you the top five things
I like about this Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G smartphone.
Design and Build
Upon taking the Nova 7 SE out of the box and seeing it in the flesh for the
very first time, it was the design that caught my attention right away. I
literally said immediately this, "wow this looks really good," referring to
the shiny back finish of the phone. There are two color variants of this phone
to be made available in the Philippines, Crush Green and Space Silver. As you
can see I got the Space Silver model. Its back design is very reminiscent of
the company's flagship P40 series'. And as expected of a shiny finish, it
easily attracts fingerprints and smudges. But believe me, that's okay and
apart from it being so nice to look at, it also feels good in the hand.
It comes with a protective clear jelly case out of the box. I tried to use it
but I stopped after a day, as like I said, the overall build feels good in the
hand, so using a case takes away that experience. It feels much better
using the phone as it is.
In addition to the stunning design, the Huawei Nova 7 SE sports a very solid
build. It definitely does not feel cheap. Its thin profile, though housing a
quite huge 4000mAh battery pack, adds to the overall better experience this
phone provides. The edges on the back sports slight curvature, making it a lot
easier and more comfortable to hold and use either with one or two
hands.
Thankfully, this one still has 3.5mm audiojack and does come with a standard
pair of earphones in the box. Alongside it is a USB Type-C port which is very
nice of Huawei to include for a midrange smartphone like this.
Display and Interface
Another thing I liked about the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G is the display and how
fluidly fast its interface has been. The phone sports a 6.57-inch LTPS IPS
display with 2400 x 1080 or full HD+ resolution. It also supports HDR10. And
as for its software, the device runs on the latest EMUI 10.1 based on the
current Android 10 OS.
Thanks to the smartphone's extremely thin bezels and so low-profile punch-hole
cutout on the upper left of the screen, the viewing experience on the Nova 7
SE is very immersive. I mean, that massive display together with the full HD+
resolution, I am definitely enjoying consuming digital content on the internet
whether it's simply scrolling through social media apps and viewing those
videos and photos shared by my friends or binge-watching on Netflix and
YouTube, it is just all good to experience. The color reproduction on the Nova
7 SE's display is really vibrant and very much alive while text and images are
sharply, brightly and vividly displayed.
Since the display is the most used part of a smartphone, having a very good
display is a must, the Huawei Nova 7 SE will not disappoint. It does not have
a 90Hz refresh rate though, but not really a big deal breaker at the moment.
Now for the interface, it is really fast. I have never encountered any lags or
delays so far. Huawei did a good job on optimizing their EMUI 10.1 user
interface with the Android 10, and also thanks in part to the phone's 8GB RAM,
everything is smooth sailing.
Battery and Fast Charge
Underneath, the Huawei Nova 7 SE houses a 4000mAh battery pack. I would be
much better of course if it had 5000mAh one, but I guess this size of a
battery is a good deal as well. It makes the phones thinner and lighter while
providing longer battery life than many other phones from the competition. On
average to quite heavy use, the phone lasts me the whole day one a single
change with around 20% life in the evening to cap my day off.
Now charging the phone is also a delightful experience, why? Because it comes
with a super fast 40W SuperCharge charger in the box. From zero to 100% it
only take approximately a little over an hour. To me, that's really
fast.
Front and back cameras
I used to have the Huawei Nova 2i a couple of years ago. I personally bought
one for myself because I really liked how it performs in the camera
department. And with this latest Nova smartphone, I can definitely say the
same thing, it still packs tremendously good snappers. On the back, it now has
four cameras with the primary one pegged at 64MP. The phone also comes with
camera modes and features to help you play around more with your smartphone
photography hobby.
On the front is a 16MP selfie camera. If you love to take tons of photos of
yourself or with your friends, the Nova Nova 7 SE front camera will not
disappoint you either.
Processor and Connectivity
And then of course, one of the main stars of this Nova offering, the
processor. It boasts a HiSilicon Kirin 820 processor with 5G support. 5G is
the next big thing in terms of network connectivity, and our local telcos have
been working hard to bring us this next-gen technology. So while 5G
availability is still very limited in the whole of the Philippines, it's good
to have a smartphone that's future-ready, right?
So with this device, I use my 5G-ready Smart SIM card which I bough just
a couple of days before I got this phone. And while 5G is still not available
in my place, Antipolo City, I am definitely experiencing much faster
connectivity than my regular 4G LTE SIM on another phone that I use. At most,
the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G is always getting 4G+ connectivity (not just 4G) and
highest speed I have recorded so far is at 33mbps download speed with an
upload speed of 12mbps. I think that's really good, don't you think?
The Kirin 820 5G processor is a very capable one. If you love playing games on
smartphone, the Nova 7 SE is a going to be a good choice of weapon as
well.
Bonus
AppGallery and AppGo
Okay yes, there is no Google Play support on the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G. But
there are other ways to get your favorite mobile apps, first off there is
Huawei's very own AppGallery which is the world's third largest app store and
it keeps on growing by the day. Today, more and more apps can now be
downloaded from the AppGallery both local and international apps like
Facebook, Viber, SnapChat, PayMaya, BDO, BPI, UB, and more.
In case you can't find your apps from the AppGallery, there is also the AppGo
which you can also download from the AppGallery. This AppGo will help you find
the best place to download your favorite apps either from the AppGallery
itself or from third party app stores like APKPure or from the app's official
website just like in the case of Facebook.
Personally, on this device I use the AppGallery for all the apps the I can
download from there. And for the rest of the apps that are yet to be made
available on the AppGallery, I use APKPure app. The APKPure app works like a
Google Play, there you can search and download the apps you are looking for
and when an update is available the APKPure app also includes those in-app and
with a single tap, you can update your existing apps on your Huawei phone. So
far, I have not encountered any issues at all.
