Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is Now Official Still With Fingerprint Scanner

This year Samsung is celebrating its 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S line. So it's kind of no surprise at all that the South Korean electronics giant would make sure that this year's Unpacked Event was going to be the biggest and most exciting one since first introduction. That said, Samsung launched a total of three Galaxy S10 devices, that's on top of the 5G variant and the Galaxy Fold smartphones. And if you have been following Samsung's journey in the Android smartphone race, this is actually the first time they have launched a flagship series with more than two models at once.

First in line is the most affordable yet-still-powerful and beautifully-crafted offering of the S10 lineup - the Samsung Galaxy S10e. Being on the more affordable side of things, this phone has some of the specs watered down a bit while keeping others that it share with its more premium Galaxy S10 siblings. For one, it sports the same Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display with a punch hole on the upper right screen that holds the 10MP dual pixel selfie camera, but instead of having Quad HD+ resolution, it has Full HD+. The screen is much smaller too at 5.8 inches compared to the other two's 6.1" and 6.4" respectively.

On the back is a dual camera set-up equipped with 12MP primary shooter and secondary 16MP camera with Ultrawide lens. The S10 and S10+ have triple-camera system for comparison. And then in terms of memory and storage, it will be released in one configuration - 6GB RAM and 128GB expandable storage. As expected, a fingerprint scanner is still present on this one. This sensor is not located on the back or on the front chin though, not even under the display, but on the side embedded right in the power key.

Apart from what have been mentioned above, the rest of the specs found on the Galaxy S10e are the same as what users can enjoy with the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ such as the Exynos 9820, Android 9 Pie with One UI, Wireless Charging and Wireless PowerShare features and more.

Samsung Galaxy S10e specs:
  • 5.8-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O Display
  • 2280 x 1080 resolution, 438ppi
  • 2.7GHz Octa-core Exynos 9820 processor
  • 6GB RAM

As you would expect, the Galaxy S10 and the S10 Plus share almost the same set of specs, features, and functionalities all the way down to the design language with of course some variations to differentiate one after the other. Obviously, the differences that we are looking at here are on the display and battery size department, and the S10 only having a single front facing camera as opposed to the S10+'s dual selfie camera implementation. And then the rest remains the same. Price wise, there is just a Php6,000 gap between the two.

With these new flagships, Samsung is introducing its new Dynamic AMOLED display technology with Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner. The Galaxy S10e also sports this tech minus the in-display fingerprint sensor. This is the best screen Samsung has ever made so far. As the first HDR10+-certified smartphones, we can expect the display to deliver vivid digital content, and with the dynamic tone mapping, this should be able to provide a wider range of color for a brilliant and most realistic picture.

This Dynamic AMOLED display is also debuts the first-ever Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner embedded right under the display panel of Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ which reads the 3D contours of one's physical thumbprint - not a 2D image of it - for a much improved anti-spoofing. As for the Galaxy S10e, it will have a traditional fingerprint scanner mounted on the side.

Samsung's very own Dual Pixel and Dual Aperture camera technologies are also brought forward with this new S10 series added with some new camera technology and advanced intelligence that will make it easier to take photos and videos. For example, there is now the Ultrawide Lens, for the very first time in the Galaxy S series. It has a 123-degree field of view, similar to the human eye. This means, what you see is what's in frame and this is going to be perfect for landscape and panoramic shots. Another is what Samsung simply calls is the Super Steady recording which has to do with recording with digital stabilization technology. Samsung says whether you are dancing in the middle of an amazing concert, for example, or trying to record every detail of a bumpy bike ride, Super Steady allows you to capture the moment. Then there is the AI tech as well where the lenses can recognize various scenes and subjects and intelligently makes changes to capture the best photo, thanks to its Neural Processing Unit.

Wireless Powershare

Another first, not just in the Galaxy S series but also in any of the smartphones that Samsung ever created, is the introduction of the Wireless Powershare also known as reverse wireless charging. If that rings a bell, yes it is the same innovation we first witnessed with last year's Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Samsung is calling this technology as Wireless PowerShare. This provides the possibility of easily charging Qi-certified devices as well as charging compatible wearable devices wirelessly by sticking the other devices to the back of the Galaxy S10 or Galaxy S10+. In addition, these devices are capable of charging themselves and a second device simultaneously via Wireless Powershare while connected to a regular charger.
