Samsung Electronics has just officially launched the Galaxy Note 9 phablet. Read more here.
Through an Unpacked event held in New York City, Samsung electronics has just officially launched its latest S Pen-equipped smartphone unsurprisingly called the Galaxy Note 9. And as what the rumors and speculations prior to this launch had been referring to, the latest Note phablet looks extremely similar to last year's Note 8 with a few minor modifications on the outside appearance.
This year's version of the Galaxy Note focuses more on the S-Pen and software upgrades as well as some hardware enhancements on the inside. And just like the previous installments of the Galaxy Note series, it still offers the best mobile solutions to users to bring their creativity and productivity skills to a whole new level.
As for the quick rundown of its technical specifications, you can check out the list below. But in short, the Galaxy Note 9 is equipped with the top of the line Android specs there is in the market right now especially in the processor, storage and RAM department. Right out of the box, for example, it houses either the Exynos 9810 or Snapdragon 845 chips depending on the market. It will be available in the Philippines in two variants, one in 6GB/128GB and another in 8GB/512GB. In case that huge internal storage options are still not enough, users can still slide in a microSD card via SIM 2 slot up to 512GB in size.
The display of the Galaxy Note 9 still looks gorgeous and very spectacular to look at thanks to its 6.4" screen size and QuadHD+ Super AMOLED display configurations and extremely thin bezels from all sides. Thankfully, we still don't see any notch located somewhere in those huge display panel.
The S Pen
This is definitely one of the highlights of the Galaxy Note9 as it now has one of those features that many users and critics have been asking for years now, and that is the ability to remotely control the phablet via Bluetooth technology. For example, it can now be used as a clicker when taking photos of ourselves or with our friends, to launch certain apps without directly interacting with the screen, or even control slides when doing a presentation. Do all this within a 10-meter radius.
These new functionalities, on top of the already smarter things that the S Pen has been able to do, is being implemented through the inclusion of a Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) tech right inside the stylus itself. It is also important to note that these new S Pen features require battery life to fully work which means users would need to charge the pen from time to time. Good thing though, Samsung was able to squeeze in that required battery-and-charging system inside the pen without the need to increase its size plus it would only require about 45 seconds to fully charge the S Pen. The S Pen is charged when inserted in the Note 9 and it only needs about 45 seconds to charge, according to Samsung. And each charge lasts around 30 minutes of use.
Storage
Storage is also another upgrades that we can see in the Galaxy Note9. In today's size of apps and the amount of photos and videos we users take to document our lives on a daily basis, storage is definitely one of the first to consider when buying a new smartphone. With this latest device from Samsung, the company wants users that storage is the last thing they will have to worry about along the way. The base storage option for the Note9 is at 128GB with the next one at staggering 512GB size. And as already mentioned above, the SIM 2 slot can also handle microSD card up to 512GB in size. That's over 1TB of storage right in your pocket if you get the 512GB variant.
Samsung Dex
Do you remember the Samsung Dex? If not, it is a docking accessory that is used with the Galaxy S8, S8+ and the Note 8 to connect to an external monitor and turn into a PC-like setup. Now this particular functionality is still supported by the new Note9, the better part is the Dex feature is now built right inside the device. All users have to have is an HDMI adapter to connect the phone directly to the monitor.
Camera
As for the camera department. Like in its predecessor, there is still a dual rear camera setup on the Note9. These are the same lenses found on the Galaxy S8+ smartphone which is said to be one of the best smartphone cameras to date. AI or Artificial Intelligence is also one of its unique upgrades, just like many high-end devices today. These cameras can detect different scenes and objects they are being pointed at and intelligently applies necessary color and exposure adjustments to provide the best possible result.
Battery
The battery in the Galaxy Note 9 is the biggest one that Samsung has ever put in a Note device since first introducing the series back in 2011. It is pegged at 4000mAh size. Now before we start worrying about its safety and that the Note7 debacle might happen again, we have to understand that Samsung already addressed the issue by establishing the "8-point battery safety check" procedures.
Cooling system for gamers
Gaming-centric smartphones are now becoming more and more a thing. A number of smartphone makers have already released their devices catering to these gamers' need. And now, Samsung is the latest phone maker to also address this growing needs with this Galaxy Note9. So aside from equipping the device with top-notch specs and processor, there is also now what Samsung is calling "the water-carbon cooling system" which helps the device to prevent overheating while users are in the middle of an intense playing.
