Reports claim that Samsung will announce the new Galaxy Note 8 in August. Read more here.
Rumors and leaks are now starting to flood the internet as we move closer to the inevitable launch of the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 device from Samsung. While Samsung itself has confirmed that there will definitely be a Galaxy Note announcement this 2017, it was never mentioned yet as to when exactly it is going to be. Reviewing previous announcements in the past years, the Korean electronics giants would usually unveil its new S-Pen equipped flagship during August with global official release about a month or two after.
A report from Reuters claims that Samsung is already set to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 in the "second half of August," citing a source familiar with the matter, and the launch event will be held in New York City. Furthermore the source also claimed that the Note 8 will have dual rear camera setup and a slightly bigger curved display than the Galaxy S8+ phone which clocks at 6.2".
This announcement claim is even backed by another report from a Korean news site called Naver, which says that Samsung will hold an Unpacked Event on August 26 in New York. Naver added that the Note 8 was initially planned to be unveiled in September to give the company more time to test the phones' security and safety even more but since that Apple will announce the iPhone 8, iPhone 7s and 7s Plus in September, Samsung decided to do it earlier to make sure that Note 8 is released before the upcoming iPhone devices.
Although nothing is ever confirmed yet as to what the Galaxy Note 8 will look like once officially launched, it is highly likely that it will sport the same "Infinity Display" found on the current Galaxy S8 devices. There was even a leak photo showing an alleged front panel of the Note 8 that's very similar to Galaxy S8 phones'.
Another huge speculation about the Note 8 is that Samsung will finally debut its dual camera capability through this phablet. The Galaxy S8+ almost had a dual camera on the back, it just didn't come into fruition due to some practicality issues that Samsung realized while the smartphone was in development phase. However, it is highly likely now that the two camera tech from Samsung will be implemented in the Note 8.
Fingerprint Scanner that is built in the display panel is also one of the biggest rumors surrounding the Galaxy Note 8. Unfortunately, it appears that we are not going to see this feature on this next Note device. Naver, quoting a Samsung official, said that a Note 8 prototype device with built in on-display fingerprint scanner was actually a real thing at Samsung, it was ditched out eventually due to some recognition rate and display integration issue. Perhaps we'll see this feature fully ready in the S9 or Note 9 next year.
Now for the processor, usually Note device is more powerful and feature packed than the S series, and if rumors are accurate this time, we are going to see a Galaxy Note 8 phablet powered by a Snapdragon 836 chip from Qualcomm. Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with Snapdragon 835.
It is also important to note that we are still two months away from the reported Unpacked Event 2017 and since majority of these information that I have just shared are all still unconfirmed and speculations, a lot might still change along the way. So please let's take everything with a little grain of salt until Samsung itself makes everything official.
