Gadget enthusiasts and Asus fans from around the world currently await the official announcement of the Zenfone 3 devices this coming May 30th in Taiwan. However, as early as today, I just heard a news that Asus just unveiled a much upgraded version of its 5000mAh-powered Zenfone Max in India earlier today.
For some reason, there is no official name for this version of Max unlike the Zenfone 2 Laser, when an upgraded version was released a couple of weeks back, was officially called Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5 S (see my unboxing and first impressions here), so we are just going to unofficially call this one an Asus Zenfone Max 2016.
Here are the new upgrades (vs the original model's) with this enhanced variant of Zenfone Max 2016.
- 2GB or 3GB RAM (from 2GB RAM)
- 1.5GHz Octa-core Snapdragon 615 Processor (from 1.2GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor)
- 32GB internal storage (from 16GB internal storage)
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow (from Android 5.0 Lollipop)
The rest of the specs remain the same like the massive 5.5-inch HD IPS display protected by a super scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 4. 13MP+5MP camera combination, LTE support, microSD card capability, and most of all the main event of the device, the massive and long-lasting 5,000mAh battery pack.
Right now this Asus Zenfone Max 2016 is only available in India via Flipkart online store where the 2GB RAM version is priced at Rs. 9,999 (Php7,000) while the 3GB RAM variant is for Rs. 12,999 (Php9,000). It is not announced in the Philippines yet, but most likely Asus will also bring it here in the next few months for price tags that will really really be attractive.
As of writing, the original Asus Zenfone Max here in the local market is discounted at Php7,995 (from Php8,495) along with other popular Zenfone devices.
