First Ubuntu Smartphone Coming Next Week, But...

...but not everyone will be able to buy one as easy as waiting for the official release date, going to the store or online store, getting one, paying and leaving. According to the spanish manufacturer BQ, starting next week there will be a series of flash sales for the first and upcoming Ubuntu OS powered smartphone. Followers of Ubuntu and BQ on Twitter will be the first one to get notified as to when and where/url the next flash sale will be.

Finally after almost two years of teasers, partial announcements and delays the first smartphone running Ubuntu mobile operating system is coming to life through Ubuntu's partnership with the Spanish ebooks and tablets maker BQ.

Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition is the phone we are talking about here. It's not a superphone yet with specs and features you would expect from a high-end device, but an entry level one with the main priority of focusing first on the early adopters and then moving forward from then on.

So what specs this Aquaris E4.5 is sporting?

On front there is a 4.5-inch qHD (960x540) display and a 5MPsecondary camera. Inside the device is a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor accompanied by 1GB of RAM. The internal storage is a bit small at only 8GB but good thing is it supports microSD card for additional memory. The back camera is pegged at 8MP complete with autofocus, LED flash and BSI technology. This rear camera can also record up to full HD quality of videos.

Starting next week again via series of online flash sales, BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition will be available for a price tag of 170 euros or about Php8,500. So for now the smartphone will initially be released in Europe and no word yet for additional market availability.
