Google Android One initiatives now in PH. Promises to provide latest Android experience with very low price tags.
Google's Android One initiatives has finally arrived in the Philippines. The Android One program's aim is to bring latest Android OS-powered devices to the emerging markets with a very affordable price tags. Late last year the initiative debuted in India where local-branded Android smartphones with low prices are a success then followed by a couple of other markets and today the Philippines is one of the newest countries to join the Google's program.
Google has partnered with the leading local smartphone companies in the country namely Cherry Mobile and MyPhone. At an event held today in Manila, the search engine giants officially launched the Android One program in the country with the announcement of Cherry Mobile One and MyPhone Uno smartphones, powered by the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Google also provided guidelines to the manufacturers in creating these type of smartphones and so far the Cherry Mobile One and MyPhone Uno will be equipped with the usual specs such as 4.5" display, 1GB RAM, 4-8GB internal storage and a quad-core processor. Part of these initiatives is to offer latest smartphones with the most updated OS for asking price of not more than Php5k.
Aside from Cherry Mobile and MyPhone, Google also partnered with local telcos like Smart and Sun Cellular to provide free over-the-air updates for its users that will be good for the first 6 months and also at the same duration free app downloads will also be offered.
So when these Android One smartphones will be available in the local market? According to a Google official post the phones will be released "in the coming weeks."
