The South Korean company LG Electronics has just officially announced the LG G Pro 2 android smartphone following the success of the first LG G Pro that was initially unveiled at the MWC 2013 last year which was also awarded the best smartphone of the event. For this year's Mobile World Congress, LG will bring the new device at the event for press and bloggers have the first touch and impressions. This was actually expected to be unveiled at that event but LG for some reason just made it official.
The G Pro 2 offers a massive 5.9-inch Full HD IPS Display with a resolution equivalent to 1920x1080. That's one of the biggest displays found in a smartphone among its competitors world wide, plus it features a 1-watt speaker system making it the first smartphone to have it built-in. Under the hood is a 2.2GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. It's already a monster smartphone to me at this very moment. It's the best competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
As for its lenses, the rear one will have a 13MP camera which is capable of not just full HD recording but also in 4K format or Ultra HD that can be playback on a 4K TV. The front one provides users with 2.1-megapixel snapper which is good enough for selfie purposes and also for video calling needs. Right out of the box will get you an Android 4.4 Kitkat running the device. What a sweet OS to have on a smartphone nowadays. The 16/32GB internal storage is still expandable via microSD card. There is also a 3,200mAh removable battery. Overall the LG G Pro 2 measures 157.9 x 81.9 x 8.3mm in dimension and only weights 172g.
Connectivity wise, there are Bluetooth 4.0, LTE/HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, NFC and SlimPort. And will be available in three different colors namely Titan, White and Red. One of the smartphone features that is only found in the device is what the LG calls Knock Code, where the phone can be waken up by simply knocking on its screen. Now you may say that that kind of functionality is also found in other devices around, what really makes it different is that LG gives users an option to set up or select a "tapping pattern" to wake the phone up. I admit that LG is really make good stuff not just on the physical designs of their products but also on its software features, and most of those are inside their flagship devices. The only sad thing part is many are not able to identify and acknowledge it.
LG says the G Pro 2 will be initially available in Korea this February, however the global release and pricing for the device are yet to be unveiled. This could be disclosed at the MWC 2014 later this month in Barcelona.
